Paving Instructions |
1. General Information
- For optimum results, leave no gaps and pack very
tightly together.
- No need to allow for expansion joints
- Cover paved areas after installation if other
building trades are still working (or walking) on
them.
- By nature the product inhibits mold, fungus and
bugs
- Remember that ground contours are more visible
with this product, therefore preparation is everything
and spend the time doing if right the first time.
Cutting the pavers
- Use a carpet knife for the thinner tiles and band
saw for the thicker ones. Bend the tile backwards
to open up the cut.
- Hand saw is suitable for minor jobs.
- The tiles or made from old tyres, and therefore
will react similar than what regular tyres would
if using an angle grinder for instance.
Adhesive
It is not a specific requirement for the rubber
tiles to be glued down, especially indoors where
it’s used on top of an existing hard surface,
however where firm fixing to the flooring is required
the following applies:
There are available specifically formulated products
for bonding rubber pavers to most surfaces including
concrete however for:
- Domestic use: An even spread of silicon should
be sufficient.
- Commercial: Liquid nails or heavy duty Grip.
Follow the instructions and safety precautions
as per the specific product you are using.
2.Application on an existing or newly
solid sub-base such as: Concrete, Timber, Ceramics
and Pavers
- Surface should be smooth, clean, dry and not flaky.
- Old surfaces may need some repair before application;
e.g. chip away loose material, fill and smooth out
gaps or cavities.
- Where the surface has deteriorated, faulty material
must be removed.
- The surface should have a slight gradient to
ensure adequate drainage - 1% on pathways and 3%
on large areas is sufficient, this ensures a natural
run for the water.
- Tiles should not be left to sit in pools of water,
even if stuck with a full spread of adhesive.
- New concrete should be allowed to cure (28 days)
and thereafter washed down a few times with soapy
water to ensure a neutral ph.
Application
- Ensure any concrete surfaces have cured properly
before attempting to apply adhesive.
- Do not apply adhesive on outdoor applications
if surfaces are wet or rain is likely.
- Surfaces to be bonded must be clean and dry
- Spread the adhesive uniformly over the “to
be paved surface”, this can be done sections
at a time. Pending the bonding material used, it
may require an application to both surfaces, floor
and tile.
- Position tiles into wet adhesive in the same
positions as "loose laid".
- Once down, the tiles must remain dry until the
compound has cured as per the products instructions.
- No traffic until sufficiently cured.
3. New Base
Firstly ensure that the Enviro-Paver used is suitable
for this type of base by checking with our staff.
Compacting
- Compact the surface of the soil with a plate
compactor (you can rent these).
- Fill the area with 50mm crushed stone or dolomite.
- Compact this with the plate compactor. Wetting
the gravel lightly with water will help with the
compacting.
- When you can walk on the gravel without causing
an indentation you can add the next layer of gravel
and compact it.
- Continue to add gravel in layers until the base
is 50mm. Make sure to slope the surface for water
drainage.
Edge Restraints
Edge restraints should always be used to prevent
the pavers from moving. Any number of different
materials can be use for that purpose. Just make
sure that all corners are square.
Screed
- Screed a 5mm layer of loose dolomite on top of
the compacted surface as the final preparation for
laying the pavers.
- This level will be reflected in the finish of
the paving so it must be accurate.
- The thickness must be kept consistent across the
paved area to avoid uneven settlement of the paving
to occur.
Paving
- Starting in a 90º corner lay the pavers
in the pattern you have chosen.
- Work outwards keeping all joint lines straight.
- Work off the pavers you have already installed
but stay away from the edge so you do not disturb
the sand bed.
- Install remaining edge restraints.
- Cut pavers to be wedged in along the edge restraints.
Cutting
Cut pavers as per above
Imbedding
Roll down to embed with a heavy roller. No sweeping
sand or vibrating is recommended.
Edging and Finishing
A permanent edge restraint is necessary to prevent
movement of the pavers. Where the paving does not
abut a solid structure, unsupported edges need to
restraint and supported by a concealed concrete
edge strip.
